Earlier this week TOFLO got a chance to catch up with the humerously animated, the very talented, the Canadian R&B queen Jully Black to get the inside scoop on her latest project The Black Book, due out on November 23.
Jully a seasoned recording artist has proven herself time and time again, and though this is her 3rd studio release, says “[it] still feels like it’s my first”. As she continues to break new barriers both in house and abroad, her laundry list of accolades and accomplishments never stop growing. She discusses the various hats she wore to bring this idea to perfected fruition, her creative “team” of 13 years and her view on the Canadian urban music scene and her new “allies”.

was the camera person drunk?
God damn it, I sure hope notttt…. MANIFEST!
I have to tell the truth. Jully is looking really good. Damn!
Im a lover of Hip-Hop and R&B and im going to be honest, I didn’t really feel Jully when I first heard her but I didn’t turn away like many other Torontonians may have! There have been a few Canadian R&B artists that have come and gone, but Jully has always been there and I respect that as she has matured and perfected her craft over the years. She has definitely become a great artist, and even though I now reside in the southern US I try to always keep up with and support Canadian Hip-Hop and R&B. I feel like Toronto is getting a few good looks from US labels, artist and fans and it’s up to Toronto artist to respond. The west coast did it for a while, then the east coast had the light shining on them. In recent years the south has been under the spotlight, so maybe its time to make this a coastal thing where Canadian Hip-Hop and R&B artist can shine bright. But again it’s up the artist to step into the spotlight! I just want to say im liking Jully Black’s new sound and keep doing what you’re doing.
Shout outs to: Jully Black, Drake, Kardinal, Die-Rek, Kim Davis, Rascalz, Choclair, and producers Boi-1-da, Kyu, Sav banner. I have missed many as I don’t have time to name them all, but mad respect and shout outs to any other artist or producer out of Canada trying to get your sound out to the world. Peace and Love!
Thanks D for your comment. I am in full agreement and hope that other people will too!
