Last night we got to take in the Gala Preview screening of Oprah & Tyler Perry‘s latest movie production “Precious”. In attendance was talk show goddess Oprah Winfrey, director/actor Tyler Perry, R&B queen Mary J. Blige, R&B diva Mariah Carey, actress Paula Patton with hubby Robin Thicke and of course new comer actress Gaboury Sidibe.
Set in the late 80′s Harlem, New York, pregnant 16 year-old Precious is forced to weather through a unbelievable strife with her monster mother ( a beautiful-terrifying portrayal by Mo’nique, definitely Oscar-nom worthy). Looking to beat all odds to succeed simply to rise above the stereotypical ghetto life. This production graced all and was the perfect compliment to the novel Push by Sapphire, which it was originally based on. I highly recommend it, and it will definitely be worth the $9.95 in theatres.

Oprah’s presence made the experience much more meaningful. I am very happy to have scored these tixs. My first ever TIFF movie screening, and it was amazing.
The movie is quite moving, to say the least.
Precious is supposed to be opening tonite. Why is it that in the city of Philadelphia,Pa. This movie is not showiwng at any of the theaters? I don’t know about the rest of the people, but Id rather stay home. What’s up with this? Im telling you that none of the movie houses in Philly are showing this film! I don’t believe this! Why? I want an explanation, and I mean the truth too! We want Precious! We want Precious! We want Precious!
According to the Associated Content, the movie is only being released in 18 selected theatres across the US this week. In the next couple of weeks, they do plan on adding more theatres to that list. Sorry girl we can’t help… in Canada it’s not set to be premiering for another 3 weeks.
